Yoga and Pilates

Jamey Garner, PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher, is an experienced yoga teacher, comprehensively trained Pilates instructor and Master Trainer. She has maintained a practice as a teacher of Pilates, yoga and body-mind awareness since 2002, working with a variety of populations and ages. She has studied a range of codified yoga techniques since 1997, traveling to Sivananda Yoga Center in Chennai, India and Sivananda Yoga Farm Ashram in Grass Valley, California to intensively study traditional yoga. She is certified in Sivananda Classical Yoga and Healthy Living. She also holds a certification in STOTT Pilates, having studied the form since 1999 and is a Master Trainer with Club Pilates.

Her movement technique is influenced by years training as a dancer, specifically ballet, modern and postmodern dance. Methods such as yoga, Pilates, Alexander Technique, Release Technique, Contact Improvisation, improvisation and Body-Mind Centering influence her approach to movement education.

Jamey has a deep appreciation for yoga, contemplative practices, mindfulness and the healing arts. The desire to learn more led her to India twice, where she participated in Hindu rituals. Her research and training in meditation and mindfulness nourishes her enthusiasm for the body-mind connection and the pleasure of embodiment, concepts that inform her teaching practice.

Jamey attended Oklahoma State University, traveled to Kenya with the School for International Training, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Arizona State University.
